Developing Colour Schemes in Design
A colour scheme for your business is an organisational must. We develop colour schemes for brands and marketing, to help our clients’ businesses achieve great recognition in their operational environments. Colour is an important part of business presentation because it says so much about the attitude and position of the business. It’s a bit like body language – it has been said that the language of the body says more than any words.
Did you know colour is subjective?
Colour is subjective – people see colours differently, and that’s not talking about colour blindness. Colours are interpreted by the brain and not only appear different, but have different meanings for different people.
What is the right colour scheme?
Colour makes a powerful impact and it’s important to have the right colour scheme to suit your business. Colours can can express numerous attributes, including attitude, emotion, cost-position (cheap / expensive), sophistication, simplicity, speed, accessibility, friendliness, efficiency, etc etc. The right colour scheme for any given business is determined through an understanding of the business attributes that are most important to communicate to the audience/s for that business – it is determined by design. It could range from a very simple scheme with only one or two colours to more complex schemes, as required.
Print and Digital Design
Colour schemes must be able to work in both print and digital spaces. Sometimes your business may wish to print a branded document – it needs to look and feel the same as your digital colour presence. We help our clients manage printed and digital colour production, ensuring that a continuous effect is achieved. We use colour to create interest and engagement in our web design.
Examples of using colour for effect
Here is the logo that we designed for Height Access (a difficult access / rope access company in Sydney) the colour scheme is very simple but effective. The contrast in these colours enables the logo to stand out strongly. It’s suitable for the industrial work done by the company, and has high-vis connotations in keeping with the work being done. It can be easily translated for different applications, such as printing onto uniforms, steel plates, documents, website, etc. This design helps Height Access to present themselves professionally to all levels of business, and can be adapted to create interesting backgrounds or combined with gradients and textures for more interesting results as required.
We designed this website for Ebbn’ Flow Colonic Hydrotherapy. This website design features an all-blue colour scheme. Using one colour like this and working in it’s tonal range enables designs that always work well. Ebb’n Flow is a clinical / therapeutic service, and the balance inherent in a single-colour scheme helps to promote the benefits of the service. Check out the website here.
Here’s a brochure we recently designed for Lavish Interior Blinds. This brand needs to accommodate both residential and commercial / corporate markets and is warm and engaging but adaptable to different audience groups.
