What is proof reading?
Proof reading is checking over a document to make sure it is correct. It isn’t just about fixing spelling mistakes. It also includes aspects such as grammar, correctness, phrasing, link-checking, date-checking – making sure that the information in a document is right. When we proof read documents, we go over every aspect of the document to make sure the publication is correct.
When is proof reading important?
Although perhaps you could argue proof reading is as important as the message, or the audience it is being sent to, but in reality, it’s always important. Even if it’s only going to a small group, who wants to communicate incorrect information? It could lead onto much larger problems. Furthermore, messages may be passed along, creating a wider problem than at the beginning. Even irretrievable errors, such as in print media or email communication (that can not be edited) are not ‘worse’ than retrievable errors, like in social media or websites, because the wrong information is still going out in the first place.
